The Tussell Trust is helping people in poverty across the UK with its network of food banks, where people in need can get an emergency supply of tinned food.
People who are struggling are given a voucher by doctors, social services, priests etc which can then be exchanged for food. If you are desperate you could contact your nearest foodbank and explain your situation and perhaps they might be able to help. Remember this service is for people who literally have no money to go to the shops, not if you're a bit skint and fancy some free food so you can go to the pub with the savings.
